Blackpool were ahead in the tenth minute when full back Neil Eardley celebrated his 22nd birthday with a curling free kick which gave goalkeeper Tim Howard no chance of saving.

But the lead lasted only three minutes before Tim Cahill headed in a left wing centre from Yakubu for the first equaliser.

David Vaughan restored Blackpool's lead in the 48th minute, following up after his first shot had been blocked.

Again Blackpool could not hold on and two minutes later, Seamus Coleman, who helped Blackpool gain promotion while on loan last season, made the most of some poor defending to score.

Holloway said: "There is a long way to go, of course. But I am pleased with my team and it looks like we are getting to grips with this league.

"It is wonderful for us to play that well against a big team like Everton and be just a little bit disappointed that we did not beat them.

"If you had said this time last year that we would win at Liverpool and hold Everton to draw you would not have believed you.

"But that is what has happened. No one gave us a cat in hell's chance of staying up and there was all that talk of us struggling to get ten points.

"Here we are now doing a brilliant job and causing all kinds of people to give us proper respect and recognise what we are doing.

"I am just so proud of my players and what they have done. I could be fussy and say we led twice and should have held on but that would not be fair.

"You are talking about Everton here and all those millionaire players. We were fantastic really and I am just so pleased with what we have done so far."
