In a game which for the Seasiders was overshadowed by the tragic news of Gary Parkinson sudden illness Ollie's men produced one of the results of the day with a 2-0 defeat of Newcastle at St James Park.

Matty Gilks between the sticks will capture the headlines with an outstanding performance as he kept Kevin Nolan, Joey Barton and Andy Carroll at bay throughout an end to end game.

Blackpool once again took the game to the Toon from the off and only two remakable saves from Harper in the first 45 prevented Pool fro being further ahead.

Mike Williamson hit the Seasiders post with a header from a 25th minute Barton free-kick then Gilks saved at the feet of Nolan to keep the game scoreless until Luke Varney was tripped in the box and Adam scored from the spot.

Newcastle made changes in the second half as they looked for an equaliser but Pool's goalkeeper Gilks made a succession of crucial saves.

As the Magpies pushed forward in the final minutes they were caught on the break Charlie Adam found DJ Campbell who slotted past Harper to give Blackpool all three points which sent them into the top four of the Premier League after four games.
