David Fox's dream team includes five Pool stars

foxdeanmarneyDavid Lee Fox signed on loan from Manchester United in January 2006. He had begun his career as a Youth Trainee with United before signing as a professional for the club in December 2000. United loaned him out to Shrewsbury Town in October 2004 and he played two League games, made two substitute appearances and scored one goal for the club. He was an England Youth and England Under-20 international.

Blackpool then signed him on a permanent basis prior to the 2006/07 season and scored his first goal for the Seasiders on 4 February 2006, in a 2–2 draw against Nottingham Forest at Bloomfield Road. Following his fourth goal of the season from a free-kick against Gillingham on 3 March 2007 he commented, “I work a lot with Tommo [coach Steve Thompson] on that aspect of my game. He is always telling me there are 10 goals a season in it if you work hard and practise it. When taking free-kicks, you just try and pick out areas. If someone gets a touch it is fine by me. The free-kicks might be the difference between going up and staying in this division. The point we got at Gillingham might get us into the play-offs.”

Blackpool took up the option on his contract for an extra year on 1 June 2007 and he scored his first goal in the Championship in a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace on 20 October 2007 and he commented, “I just stood on the end of the wall to block the ‘keeper’s view. Next ting, I turned around and just hit the ball as hard as I could and thankfully it went in. We did well to come back but it’s yet another point at home. They were up for their new manager [Neil Warnock] and we found it difficult but showed character to come back.”

foxsamtogwellFox signed a new deal that would keep him at Bloomfield Road until the summer of 2010 on 25 October 2007. He commented, “It wasn’t a problem and I was always going to sign. The manager offered me a new deal verbally at the back end of last season, but the fact that we didn’t know which division we would be in made it a bit difficult. But we’ve got it done and I’m delighted. I’m looking forward to getting my head down, working hard and to playing as many games as possible this season.”

Having been left out of the side, he was reintroduced for the FA Cup third round tie at Barnsley on 5 January 2008 and he put Blackpool in the lead with a 33rd-minute goal when “Hills’ deep cross was cleverly headed back by Gary Taylor-Fletcher and Fox, rushing into the 18-yard box, swept the ball home with his right foot.” However, two late Barnsley goals meant a 2-1 defeat for Blackpool. Manager Simon Grayson commented, “There were lots of positives. We played well and created chances. One or two players came into the team who have not been involved for a while and they did well”

He admitted prior to the 2008/09 season that he had a fight on his hands to reclaim a place in the Blackpool side. He commented, “There’s a lot of competition in this squad now and that’s the thing, the gaffer is always trying to bring in players. Because there is so much competition you’ve got to try and push yourself every day to catch the eye and make sure you’re in the manager’s thoughts. It’s a big season for me. I think you can split last season into two halves, the first was great and the second was bitterly disappointing for me.”

On 9 June 2009, Fox was one of eight Blackpool players released by new manager Ian Holloway. He joined Colchester United on 1 July. Fox made his debut for Colchester in the opening game of the saeson on 8 August 2009, in their 7–1 away victory over Norwich City, in which he scored direct from a free-kick. After one season at Colchester, Fox agreed to sign for Norwich on 2 June 2010 on a 2 year deal and was given the squad number 15. Initially used as a substitute, Fox became a regular selection in midfield. He scored his first goal for Norwich in the 1–1 draw at Millwall. He was booked on his premier league debut setting the record for fastest booking ever on premier league debut having been booked just one minute into his premier league career on 13th of august in 1-1 draw with Wigan.

David Fox's all-time Dream Team:

David was asked to name his dream team of players he has either played alongside or against. The only stipulation was he couldn't name any of from his current team Norwich.

Below is the list of his selections which included five of his former team-mates at Blackpool.

Goalkeeper - Joe Hart  "He came to Blackpool on loan when I was there for a couple of months and I don't think he let a goal in! That was a few years ago now and he had gone onto have a ghreat career and he is the number one for England. I don't see why he couldn't be England captain one day too, he has all the qualities."

Right-back - Shaun Barker "I was at Blackpool with Shaun too. he can actually play either centre-half or right-back, but I think in this team I'll have him at right-back. I don't think he missed a game in teh time I was at Blackpool, and he never got beaten in any one-on-ones. He's a good lad as well, and I still keep in touch with him."

Centre-back - Gerard Pique

Centre-back - Ian Evatt  "Ian is one I played with at Blackpool again, and I think he'd win all the heders so that Pique could play all the football. He'd do all the dirty stuff as he's good in the air. I think Evatt and Pique would be a good mix."

Left-back - Stephen Crainey "He has a really great left foot, he's very consistent, he rarely gives it away and he did brilliantly in the Barclays Premier League with Balckpool last season."

Right-midfield - Darrren Fletcher

Centre-midfield - David Fox

Centre-midfielder - Roy Keane

Left-midfield - Christiano Ronaldo

Striker - Andy Morrell "I was at Blackpool with Andy, and he just works his socks off up front. He scored a lot of goals there and led the line really well. He's doing well at Wrexham now too, still scoring goals. So I'd have him up front as a big target man, he'd get on teh end of a few crosses."

Striker - Guiseppe Rossi.
