Saturday 31st January 1953

The rain that was falling prior to the kick-off did not deter 29,239 spectators from attending the FA Cup fourth round tie at Bloomfield Road. The issue was settled in the 83rd minute with the sort of goal that could be expected on such a blustery day. Huddersfield had been given a warning of what could happen in the 81st minute when Tommy Garrett received the ball just inside the Blackpool half and, adjusting his sights from a previous effort, immediately hit it towards the Huddersfield goal. It flew over everybody and seemed to be destined for the crowd but, at the last moment, it dipped in the wind and sailed into the roof of the net past the outstretched hands of a surprised and despairing Wheeler.  It was to be Garrett’s only FA Cup goal in 28 appearances and one of only four that he scored in over 300 games for the club. But it was priceless and ensured that Blackpool’s name was in the bag for the fifth round draw.

Wednesday 31st January 2001

Chairman Karl Oyston gave the go ahead for work to start on the new stadium development at Bloomfield Road after a £4 million investment package had been put in place and the building contract had finally been agreed. The £6.5million raised through private investment and a Football Foundation grant
