The Harbour Master at Fleetwood suggested that a reward of £5 be offered to anyone giving information leading to the discovery of the body of Jimmy Hampson and this was agreed by Blackpool's Board of Directors on 18 January 1938. His body was never found.

Peter Noble made his League debut for Blackpool against Southend United on 18 January 1980 when he scored Blackpool's goal in a 1-0 victory.

The writing was perhaps on the wall for Tony Diamond and others when on 18 January 1990 manger Jimmy Mullen said after Blackpool plummeted down the table, "I don't want to specify any names but clubs will be circulated with the fact that we have men available and we will see what inquiries we get."

A quality strike by Gudjonsson proved to be enough for Leicester to win through to the fourth round of the FA Cup. Blackpool had most of their problems before the game even kicked off when a contractor working nearby cut through all the cabling for the club's ticket office and telephone system. Colin Hendry had to throw rookie Lewis Edge in for his Bloomfield Road debut. Edge saw plenty of action and the game's outstanding moment came in the 16th minute when Gudjonsson picked up a poor pass out of defence by former Leicester player Simon Grayson. He took two strides before letting fly with a glorious 35-yard shot which veered into the top corner.
