Most unusually Blackpool played in red and white stripes, instead of their normal white shirts, in the FA Cup first round replay against Derby County on 14 January 1920 and also in the second round tie against Preston North End on 30 January 1920. Derby County were beaten 4-1 but Preston triumphed 2-1.

Saturday 14th January 1978

Blackpool registered their biggest home score for four seasons, since the drubbing of Portsmouth, and Bob Hatton became the first Blackpool player to record three hat tricks in a League season, since the days of Jimmy Hampson. A crowd of 6,206 also saw goals from striker Mickey Walsh and midfielder Paul Hart to round off Blackpool’s 5-1 victory against Charlton Athletic.

Saturday 14th January 1997

Hammersmith–born Udo Onwere was signed by Blackpool from Dover Athletic in September 1996 after having spells in the league with Fulham and Lincoln City. In all he made 27 appearances for Blackpool in the first and reserve teams but he was only on the winning side on two occasions. He was in the Coca-Cola Cup side that defeated Chelsea 3-1 on 25 September 1996 but then he had to wait until 14 January 1997 before tasting victory again when he was a 79th-minute substitute as Blackpool beat Lincoln City in an Auto Windscreens Shield second round tie. Blackpool released him after just the one season, probably feeling that he was a bad luck charm!

Wednesday 14th January 2003

Seasiders chairman Karl Oyston has promised the redevelopment of the South Stand will go ahead but insisted he won't be pressured into making any rash decisions. Oyston revealed he spent the previous day locked in talks about the project but vowed he would make an announcement only when the time was right and all plans for the new multi-million pound stand had been finalised.
