Blackpool secured their first win of the season at the unlikely venue of the Dr Marten's league ground of Dorchester United. Brian Reid's midweek knock ruled him out of today's game, being replaced by Phil Thompson.

It was defender John Hills who was later replaced by Tommy Jaszczun scoring what turned out to be Blackpool's winner after only 8 minutes.

Brett Ormerod latched onto a long ball and took on the Bournemouth defence to then thread a perfect ball for the onrushing Hills, who had sprinted 50 yards, to neatly control the ball, round the advancing keeper and slot the ball home.

The Seasiders made sure of 3 valuable away points when Feeney missed a penalty for the Cherries on 72 minutes after O'Kane had fouled in the box, and Barnes produced a magnificent one handed save from the same player minutes later as Pool clung on.

Cherries boss O'Driscoll said: "We are disappointed not to have got anything out of the game because we had large periods of possession, especially in the second half, but we didn't play as well as we know we can and it is hard when you are without three key players."

"We had a chance to take a point with the penalty but we don't seem to be able to take those opportunities at the moment and we will be working hard to improve our game because this result was disappointing for everyone."

Pool Team: Barnes, Parkinson, Thompson, O'Kane, Hills (24), Wellens (72), Hughes, Mackenzie, Simpson, Murphy, Ormerod

Subs: Jaszczun(24), Clarkson, Pullen, Milligan, Bullock (72).

20 August 2001 - Former Pool dies

The football world has been stunned by news of the death of much-travelled goalkeeper Les Sealey at the age of 43.

Sealey joined Blackpool from Manchester United in the summer of 1994 towards the end of his career, and made nine first team appearances for the Seasiders before returning to his native east London with West Ham. Early reports indicate that Sealey, who was working at West Ham in a coaching role, suffered a heart attack.
